Before You Cruise: A Practical Preparation Checklist
By BuyEnov on Jul 19, 2026 0 CommentA cruise is one of the few holidays where you spend a week or more in the same enclosed environment — shared dining rooms, theatres, lifts, corridors and recirculated air, plus a flight or long drive at each end. A little preparation makes the whole thing more comfortable.
Here’s a practical checklist, built from what our customers tell us about cruising.
Two weeks before
- Check your documents. Passport validity requirements vary by cruise line and itinerary — six months beyond your return date is a common rule.
- Review your travel insurance. Medical care on board is charged privately and can be expensive.
- Order anything you need to take with you. Ship shops are limited and expensive, and port pharmacies may not stock what you use. Anything you rely on daily is worth having in your case.
Packing: the things people forget
- A refillable water bottle. Cabins and ship air are dry, and it is easy to drink less than you would at home.
- Lip balm and a light moisturiser. Air conditioning and sun are a drying combination.
- Your usual nasal care. If you use a nasal spray or rinse, bring it — dry conditioned air is one of the most common complaints on board. Enovid / NoWonder™ comes in a 25ml bottle, well inside carry-on liquid limits for the flight to the port.
- A small first-aid kit. Plasters, pain relief, motion-sickness remedies, and anything you take regularly, in original packaging.
- Layers. Ships are often heavily air-conditioned indoors even in hot destinations.
- A power bank and the right adaptors. Cabin sockets are usually few and often an unexpected standard.
Getting to the port
Embarkation day is usually the longest and most crowded of the trip: a flight or drive, then terminal queues, then boarding with several thousand other people.
- Travel the day before if you can. It removes the single biggest source of stress — a delayed flight on sailing day.
- Keep essentials in your hand luggage. Checked bags are delivered to cabins over several hours.
- Build your usual routines around the journey. If you use a nasal spray when you fly, the same habit applies at the terminal and on boarding.
On board: settling in
- Find the humidity level. Cabin air is typically dry. A glass of water by the bed and lip balm in the drawer go a long way.
- Learn the layout early. Knowing the quieter routes and the less crowded dining times makes the whole week easier.
- Keep a routine. Cruising disrupts sleep, meals and hydration all at once. Anchoring one or two habits — water in the morning, your usual nasal care morning and evening — keeps things steady.
Daily rhythm that works
Most experienced cruisers settle into something like this:
- Morning — water before coffee, and your usual routine before heading to breakfast.
- During the day — sunscreen on deck, water regularly, a break from the sun in the afternoon.
- Before dinner and shows — the busiest indoor hours of the day. A good moment for the same routine again.
- Evening — wind down properly. Ship days are longer than they feel.
Shore days
- Carry water, sunscreen and a small bag — not your passport unless the port requires it.
- Know the all-aboard time and set an alarm for 30 minutes before.
- Tender ports mean queues in enclosed boats at both ends. Factor that into your timing.
Where NoWonder fits
Enovid / NoWonder™ is a nasal cleanser — it cleanses and refreshes the nasal passages. Cruising involves exactly the conditions that make people notice their nose: dry conditioned air, long days indoors, flights at both ends and a lot of time in busy shared spaces.
Per the label, it may be applied 3 to 4 times daily (2 sprays per nostril each time), or up to 6 times daily as needed. Most cruisers use it morning and evening, plus before dinner or a show. One 25ml bottle contains around 200 sprays — roughly a month of daily use, so a single bottle comfortably covers a two-week trip.
Full technique, including priming a new bottle before you travel, is on our How to Use page. More situations in our when to use it guide.
The short version
Travel to the port the day before. Pack for dry air. Keep your daily routines rather than abandoning them. Drink more water than feels necessary. And prime any new spray bottle before you leave home, not in a cabin bathroom on night one.
